Andrea Peto on Hungary as a Laboratory

"A discourse is normalized here, in which women are not even supposed to think about having equal rights. In this idea, they are different and should focus on family and having children," our Research Affiliate Andrea Peto said to Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk.

She also talked about the fact that right-wing populists around the world have chosen gender as their bogeyman, and warned against seeing Hungary as an anomaly. "This is a transnational movement. All these ideas come from somewhere. They are not Hungarian peculiarities. It is easy to see Orbán as the main enemy. But he isn't. Hungary is just a laboratory where all these policies are being tested," she argued.
