Andrea Peto on Women in Politics

“In Hungary, we still have to fight today not to question that women are equal to men,” our Research Affiliate Andrea Peto said in an interview with Mandiner, a Hungarian weekly.

The double interview also featured Fruzsina Skrabski, a Hungarian journalist and filmmaker. Andrea Peto talked about the fact that while the participation of women in party politics has been steadily increasing in neighboring countries since the regime changes, there has been virtually no change over this period in Hungary. The main reason for this is party structure, she said: “male gatekeepers only let in those with the right connections, votes or real capital. The parties have a great responsibility to decide what kind of offspring they want to bring in.”
