“The shortsighted approach of the Commission gives rise to worry,” Dimitry Kochenov, lead researcher of our Rule of Law workgroup, and Post-doctoral Research Fellow Barbara Grabowska-Moroz write in their book chapter. The chapter is part of an edited collection by Giuliano Amat, Benedetta Barbisan and Cesare Pinelli, published by Bloomsbury Academic.
The authors analyze the state of the debate on the Rule of Law challenges and developments in the European Union leading to the release of the 2019 Commission Communication ‘Strengthening the Rule of Law: A Blueprint for Action’ and provide a detailed assessment of the Communication itself. They explain that all the boxes seem to be ticked during this discussion and reflection exercise, many a conclusion are drawn; yet, the outcome has seemingly brought the Commission nowhere.
