Laszlo Bruszt on Academic Freedom in Finnish Public Broadcaster

For its documentary ‘Hungarian Cultural War’, DI’s Co-Director Laszlo Bruszt was interviewed by YLE, the Finnish public service television. The documentary covers the fight for control over media and universities in Hungary.

“Right-wing feels, and has felt for long since 1989 being suppressed, being weak, being on the margin, not able to compete with intellectuals, scientists, artists of the left-liberal camp, and now they would like to dominate the whole sphere,” Laszlo Bruszt said.

He talked about the origins of CEU (around 19:50), Lex CEU, which forced the university out of the country (around 16:05), and also about teaching in Vienna (around 23:38).
