Peter Rado on the Hungarian Teachers’ Strike

“The reasons behind the resurgence of teachers' resistance and the attempts to overthrow it perfectly illustrate the nature of the Fidesz regime,” our Research Affiliate Peter Rado writes in his article in Portfolio.

He writes about the nationwide protest of Hungarian teachers, which kicked off “despite the fact that the government has used almost every means of disenfranchisement and intimidation,” he argues, adding that “many parents' and students' organizations have taken a stand alongside teachers. Nevertheless, it is still an open question whether the teachers' strike, which enjoys strong support, will succeed in raising living wages and reducing the exploitative workload.”
