Zsuzsanna Szelényi: Europe Needs a Strategy to Deal with Orbán's Radicalization

"If Orbán's extortionist policies become the new rule of the game, the EU will lose its ability to deal with problems and become irrelevant on the world stage," Zsuzsanna Szelenyi, Program Director of the CEU Democracy Institute Leadership Academy wrote in an op-ed published in Die Presse (Austria), Tageblatt (Luxembourg) and Publico (Portugal).

Just before the December European Council meeting, the op-ed warns that Orban may have a lasting influence on EU policy, undermining the EU's ability to act on key geopolitical issues.

"One wonders whether the EU leaders will not see through Orban's power games and understand that his increasingly problematic approach to European politics is a direct result of his authoritarian course in Hungary," Szelenyi writes.
