Edgar Sar is a PhD candidate in Political Science at Bogazici University. He graduated cum laude and received his B.A. degree in Political Science and International Relations from Marmara University and received his Masters degree in Political Science from Bogazici University with his thesis “The Relationship Between Secularism and Democracy: The Case of Turkey in the 2000s”. In his current research, he specifically focuses on the processes of autocratization and the strategies of political opposition during these processes. His research interests include (de-)democratization, theories of secularism and democracy, state-religion-society relations in Turkey and the Middle East and constitutional law. Edgar Sar is co-founder of Istanbul-based think tank İstanbul Political Research Institute (IstanPol) and also writes a weekly column a medyascope.tv, an independent online media platform in Turkey.
