Eszter Polgari

Eszter Polgári is the Legal Program Director at Háttér Society, the oldest and biggest LGBTQI organization in Hungary; she is responsible for strategic litigation, international advocacy, and human rights monitoring. Prior to joining Háttér Society, she worked as an assistant professor and Chair of the Human Rights Program at the Department of Legal Studies of the Central European University. Her primary research interest lies in the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, in particular the methods and doctrines of interpretation and their use in the case-law concerning bodily integrity, personal autonomy and private life. She has extensively collaborated in research projects exploring the domestic implementation of human rights.

Eszter received an LL.B and a PhD from the Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences (Budapest). She holds an LL.M in Human Rights from the Central European University and an MA in Human Rights and Democratization from the European Inter-University Center.
