Janka Novak

Program Assistant

Janka Novák joined the Democracy Institute as an intern in the 2022 Leadership Academy program and has now transitioned to the role of Program Assistant. She recently earned her master's degree in Critical Gender Studies at CEU. During her studies, Janka served as an Associate Editor for the 2022 edition of the Human RightS Initiative’s (HRSI) The Activist, a student-led human rights journal. Her master's thesis focused on the dynamics of gendered social interactions and violence in a Hungarian public school, with a particular emphasis on understanding intersectional inequalities related to gender, ethnicity, and sexuality. Since 2023, she also holds the position of Partnerships Coordinator at Lazy Women, an international feminist collective and small independent media initiative dedicated to reshaping the global narrative on womanhood. In addition, Janka volunteers with Hungarian feminist NGOs, Emma Association and Patent Association, assisting Ukrainian refugee women in addressing their sexual and reproductive health needs.
