Research areas

Tamara Steger's research focuses on social movements for environmental and social justice that address colonialism, stigmatized segregation and exploitation.  Her most recent project work is on the H2020 project entitled, UrbanA (Urban Arenas for Sustainable and Just Cities).  She has published on urban environmental justice, environmental justice and environmental movements in Central and Eastern Europe, social inequalities in environment and health, the anti-fracking movement, and the OCCUPY movement. Using predominantly qualitative research methods or mixed methods, Dr. Steger explores in particular the implications of how environmental movements and initiatives conceptualise and articulate the focus of their efforts.
